You could cut it back by around a third. This is the time of year for doing that  anyway (known as the "Chelsea chop" ). This will take some of the strain off it.
If you got a good chunk of rootball it should be fine, just keep an eye on the watering. I would expect it to pick up in a day or two unless the weather turns really warm (unlikely ! ).

Yeah, I got all of the roots, just had to cut a small section (on one side of the clump) so hopefully it'll perk up. I'll give it a few days and see how it goes. When you say about the watering, does it need more than usual?

    Thanks.

Depending  on where you are, l should imagine the soil was pretty damp and easy to dig. We have had so much rain.
Personally I would start by giving it around half to three quarters of a watering can, then watch and see how the soil drains. If it drains quickly, then give a bit more. If it starts to puddle, leave it.
Leave it for 2 days, so say you do it tomorrow (Thursday),  look at it again on Saturday, and do the same with half a can. Phlox are pretty tough, you may find that in the morning it's perked up overnight.
    That's what l would do  :).

Yeah, it’s rained here for past few days so soil was easy to prep. I gave it about half a can after planting then mulched with well rotted manure.

I don’t think rain is forecast now so I’ll water it again on Friday.

    Thanks for the advice!
