Lawn SOS!

Hi all,
My fairly well tended lawns have recently started showing patches of a very course grass, with a lighter shade of green & thicker stems. A photo can be supplied if required, but I reckon this will be a well known problem?
I have a company called Greensleeves who treat the lawns 3 or 4 times a year, but aren't due again till mid June for me to ask the question.

Any advise welcome.

Dig out the clumps of coarse grass and seed the gaps with a seed mix to match your lawn. Slashing the clumps of coarse grass with a knife and keeping the lawn cut fairly short (mowing little but often) are supposed to weaken the coarse grasses and favour the fine grasses, but in my experience it doesn't get rid of the coarse stuff. No chemical treatment will kill the coarse grass and not the lawn grass so your lawn treatment company might not be able to help unless they're prepared to put in the graft.

Thanks Jenny. I was hoping for a magical solution, pun intended!
