Information on growing Ring of Fire Red Hot Chillies.

I was given a wicker basket ring of fire red hot chillies grow set for Christmas.  I now have a beautiful basket of plants. My worry is that I dont think the contents of the basket can sustain the healthy growth of so many plants. Do I now need to decant each plant into separate containers  and can they be  moved outside? They have been in my conservatory all this time . I am in the north east of Scotland.

  • I'm no expert , but I'd be shocked if you could grow chillies successfully outside where you are. I'm in London , and even here, ( depending on how sheltered the garden is and aspect) indoor or greenhouse chillies are much more productive. Don't know how many chilli plants you have , and how big your basket is. I'd suggest you need 2-3 litres of growing medium for each plant for a ring of fire sized chilli ( which I understand gets to approx 18 inch tall and similar spread , although I have not grown this variety myself). You could use a larger pot for multiple plants -- and I guess if you have enough you can keep one or two indoors and chance the rest outside and prove me wrong!
