French lavender in the north west

Has anyone had success with French lavender? I ordered some plugs ( lavender bandera) before realising they are less hardy in uk climes ( obvious really I suppose). They are intended for pots, so would they survive to see another summer if I just bring them indoors in autumn? Or may it be possible to keep them outdoors?
I'm not expecting much from them this summer so am hoping to see nice growth and blooms next year if I can keep them alive! Cheers.

I have grown it here and it lasted a few years
RHS says it's hardy throughout most of the UK and ok down to -5C to -10C

Good drainage is key to success with them

I was given one as a present a couple of years ago which I planted out. It is still good and has never been given any special care. It is obviously much bigger now and has remained in the ground all year round. Just pruned anything that was untidy. Maybe I was just lucky.

I couldn't even keep mine alive in a pot inside the greenhouse over winter .

They won't survive heavy clay soil. I can't grow any lavender in my soil, you need good drainage.
  • @Posy they will be in pots with a compost/sand mix. I suppose I shall just have to try. I can bring smaller pots into the porch to overwinter. There may be some in a larger planter so they may not survive or I could attempt to wrap them up.

I have the Stoechas variety, planted in one of the borders, hated it as I assume the soil was too rich so dug it up and planted it in just our garden soil which is chalky and it's starting to look better. I would avoid using compost of potting as they don't like much food or water.
