Rhubarb in container

Hi. I planted victoria rhubarb in a container last year. Did not pick any stems and it grew well, died back and started to grow back well in spring. After the late daily frosts it started to wilt. Now stems are soft and leaves look unhealthy. Any advice please. Thanks

    Hello.
We haven't grown any in a container but ours outside was kept back by the frosts and then the months of no rain.
They do like water and now May being the month of RAIN they are responding really well.
Maybe keep a check on the watering as in a container they will need more than in the ground.
  • Thanks. We've had loads of rain recently and it seems wet enough at the moment. I was wondering if it might need feeding  as the leaves are not as green as last year? I did remove a flower head that started to grow and it's gone downhill since then?

How is the drainage in that pot? It may be that it is too wet rather than to dry.

You need to stand the pot on feet so there’s plenty of drainage, the plant would be better in the ground.  Once they’ve flowered they take a time to get going again.

  • Hi. Thanks for your comments about drainage. The pot has got loads of drainage holes in the bottom and all around the sides. I'll try raising it up off the ground, feet are a good idea. Unfortunately our garden gets waterlogged in places, hence the pot. Thanks
