Can this be re-homed?

I recently bought a derelict house and whilst clearing bricks, found what I assume to be an asparagus.  Can I dig it up and grow in a pot till the garden is cleared and ready for veg? If so, how large is the crown? Could it be something non-edible and therefore,  don't bother?

It is edible asparagus. I don't know the answer but why not give it a go. You probably don't want it where it is anyway.

They are usually wide and shallow roots and a bit resentful of being moved but you've got nothing to lose by trying. Try to get a wide lump of soil and shift it onto a sheet or the like. Get someone to help you pick it up on the sheet and transplant it somewhere that is free draining. Water it well and see what happens.

Yes looks very much like asapargus.
They can be moved but not now as they are still growing.
We transplanted a rogue plant some years ago and today we managed to pick 3 spears with 3 more on the way.
Wait until the growth dies back so you know where it is and then transplant it.

Wait till the growth does back so you know where it is! When they die  back they leave absolutely no trace, they also take months for the huge fronds to yellow. If you actually like asparagus bearing mind, it's quite expensive and takes a minimum of 3 years before you can crop,if possible I would keep it, not try to move it until it has died back.we need pictures of the house and garden!

Thanks everyone.  Seems I shouldn't move it till it dies back- but if that after the feathery fronds have gone yellow or when the spears have died back?

Spears don't die back pick them, they will grow ,6 inches in a day. You stop picking mid June, fronds appear, they are huge 2 mtr tall, and take months to go yellow,

Any guess which spears are the ones I picked today against shop bought ones?  :D
