Hi All.

      My problem is moving a
Sophora microphylla Sun King Tree to another part of the garden, is this possible?

Hi Jackie and welcome to the forum from a fellow Essex gardener.
I don't know the answer to your question, but probably the most important bit of info we need would be an idea of the size and age of the tree and how long it's been planted.
A photo would be a big help if you have one.

    What a cracker!
I have no knowledge of them, but I came across this which may be some help

It looks like it's well settled there and I'd guess that realistically it's not practical to move it, but see what others here think

It's rather large and broad and the general rule is that the roots extend at least as far as the canopy so I think you would need some special machinery and muscle power to a) dig out all the root ball without damaging it and b) move it to a new spot and get it planted at the correct depth.

It would take a great deal of prep beforehand and a great deal of TLC afterwards for it to survive and, in any case, should not be attempted before autumn when it goes almost dormant as temperatures drop.

On top of all that there's still a risk that it won't survive or that it will take some years to get close to where it's at now.
