Purple sprouting broc... any chance of a crop after flowers have formed?

Last autumn we planted some purple sprouting broccoli at our allotment.

We've had rather peculiar weather (to say the least) and they seem to have skipped straight to flowering without really growing any edible pieces first.

Should I leave them be in the hope of a crop at some point later or are the reports of them being a bit useless after flowering true?

The bit you eat is the purple flower heads while they're still tight in bud.  Once they open to show the yellow petals they're past it.    All you can do is cut off those flower heads and see if the plants are prompted to make more, like dead-heading an ornamental flowering plant to encourage more new flowers.

Agree with Obelixx totally.  Basically, the harder you pick them the more they produce.  Nice greens too.
