Tree not leafing

Hello,

I recently moved into a new house and I have a tree in the garden, now I'm no expert but from my research I think it's a small leafed lime tree. I'm starting to get concerned now as we are approaching the end of May and its still not in leaf making me think there's a problem.. I cut off a branch the other day and under the bark its green and it has buds on the tree and cutting one open also revealed green inside.. any ideas as to what could be wrong? Also I live in the North west of England and every other tree around is in leaf which makes me think it isn't a weather issue.

Thanks
Mike

Is that grass or as*ro turf? The tree needs a large, clear circle of soil around it to allow rain to reach the ground and its roots and let you feed or apply mulch or water according to need.
I am in the NW too and some of my trees are still hardly leafing up and none look how you would expect this late in the year. I suspect your tree is suffering from drought as well as delay from the low temps we have had and would benefit from a good watering, though if you've had what we've had in the last 2 days the weather would have done it for you - if that is grass!
Beyond that patience is required. Keep it well watered, bucketsful at a time, poured slowly so it has chance to soak in and it should eventually produce some leaves if the damage is not too great. Don't try to feed it until it is growing well. Good luck :)

In answer to your question that is grass and its done nothing but rain here for the past week so hopefully we'll see some results within the next couple of weeks 🤞🤞
