I hope they’re basil cinnamon, closes to the Thai basils I wanted which are quite different to the Mediterranean basil you normally find for pesto and salads. The stems of these are normally woodier.
I had to look it up, and they do have different foliage. Almost looks like Ajuga They probably just need a bit of time and warmth. Don't be in a hurry to split them anyway. They're tiny
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

There's some cinnamon in with this lot from last year. "Nicky's Spice Boys" mixed seed, I think:
I did separate some of the seedlings when it became obvious what they were, as the Thai basil will outgrow any of the others if grown in the same pot. Lemon basil is quite a weak grower so sown separately. Love the stuff and some of my salads have as much basil in as lettuce!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Beautiful pics @Zoe P2 and @BobTheGardener - that’s the abundance I’m looking for. Love the purilla leaves too. I’m hoping to get some as I love the taste of that too. How do you get your basil cinnamon to grow so well, is it in pots, indoors? In the ground?
I’ll wait until seedlings are nice and strong and will separate individually where possible if one plant can look like Zoe’s.
I have sown the lettuce leaf basil that came free with the gardeners world magazine as well some lemon basil both have germinated well, both sown in 12 cm pots I covered the pots with a poly bag over the pots in a cold greenhouse so I am pleased with the results so far fingers and toes crossed they will provide me with a decent crop.
These are basil cinnamon variety grown from seeds. Do they need pricking or thinning out and when to do this? I don’t want to waste any seedlings so I do want them to grow strong.
Update: I don’t think there’s any cinnamon basil in there. The seeds must have not come up and I sowed coriander seeds in there instead but forgot to label. Definitely coriander because one of the seedlings leaves were still stuck to a coriander seed and that’s how it looks. So no need to prick it out but disappointed no Thai basil seedlings.
