Trouble is, many companies are also trying to cut down on plastics use for packaging. We can't have it all ways. I've had a few plug plants that came in cardboard trays in a tight-fitting outer carton. The plugs were in supposedly-biodegradable teabags but those were easily removed before potting up. They were fine, not too wet or too dry, but had been dispatched directly to Royal Mail and delivered next day by our lovely postie.

I don't think receiving your order the next day is going to pose any issues for anyone if that is the norm for a company despatching plants, but from my experience and many others on here ( from what I've read) and especially for those of us living in outlying areas it is not the norm to receive a delivery the next day, hence my query about the right packaging. I certainly don't advocate the use of plastic where its not necessary it doesn't have to be plastic there are many other materials that may be suitable it just needs someone with an engineering or product design background to address the issue.

That's my point, that speedy delivery is the main thing and allows the packaging to be kept simple(ish). I think 2 to 3 days is reasonable and is achievable within most of the UK most of the time if the appropriate carriers and services are chosen.  It seems crazy that Dobies, who give a list of postcodes that they don't deliver live plants to because of possibly extended delivery times, would then choose a slow service for somewhere that isn't on that list, so I hope your plants weren't actually in transit for the whole week and they turn up in good condition.

My post is about Dobies not suppliers in general which I thought was clear in the content I posted.

As for my expectations they are in line with what the supplier offers and promises to deliver to my selected location when I purchase nothing more nothing less.

Note: Ordering from Dobies, Suttons or Thompson and Morgan is ordering from T&M in effect as they are all now part of the T&M group.

    Just an update to this.
I did receive my plug plants eventually and as I suspected they were in a terrible condition on arrival. Of those ordered only 10 were salvagble and the rest had to be dumped.
Dobies, T&M and Suttons are now off my purchasing list for anything other than seed.

Have you complained with photos and asked for a refund?

Many times in the past , but no more. You can only complain so many times before you realise its pointless and to move on.
