How to remove grass not the moss

I don't really understand the query.
Do you mean you want to have an area of moss in your lawn rather than the grass?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

James Wong is a big advocate of doing this. You need the right conditions to start with though I think.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Ah - yes, I'd agree. The conditions would have to suit. Damp and shade are two of the main situations which will boost moss rather than grass.
I expect you could try scalping the grass frequently until it becomes weak, and then see what it's like.

This is fascinating. We have a section of lawn which is very damp with acid soil, already has plenty of moss. Very tempted to try converting it to a moss lawn. We already have some big decorative rocks, so maybe I’ll get some stepping stones and start actively discouraging the grass. Don’t think it would take long for it to give up the ghost.
