Apple tree and pot size

I have purchased a Malus domestica golden delicious apple tree. Will a container measuring 15x15x28 inches or 38x38x70 cm be suitable for planting it in? It is square at the top and tall. Any other advice on planting care and opinions of this tree would also be gratefully received. I have tried to include Photo of tree and pot won’t work right now.

That’s great. Thank you. So a deep pot might not do it any good?

thanks. Any ideas what I could use that pot for? Now that I’ve got it.
    The volume would be
about 100 litres according to my maths.

Sticking my nose in here ... I think those tall square pots look fabulous with a biggish fountain-type grass in it. 😎

    hi
just went and purchased a smithy pot for the tree.
Thanks for reminding me about the drainage holes. Will definitely do that.
Have bought miracle gro rose tree and shrub compost and lots of horticultural grit. Will plant tree in mixture of these and some MPC. Will this be ok??
in the big pot, after filling partly with polystyrene as advised. Thanks for that tip!
Shall I put in a Peony plants that I have received as a gift?
not sure what variety it is or the flower colour. It will be a surprise!
I know it’s a perennial so will die back

sooty sorry last post does not read very well.
I am going to plant the tree in the smithy pot.

I’m asking shall I put a peony in the tall square pot?

also sorry to keep asking questions.
I can’t get my hands on any polystyrene right now.
    Any substitutes?
can I use upturned cheap plastic pots?
    thanks.

Some pebbles or even lumps of half brick ... it's better to have something heavy in the bottom of those tall pots as in the wind the plants can act like sails, and if the pot is top heavy with polystyrene etc in the bottom the wind will blow them over really easily.
