What’s eating my aquilegia?

hi, just wondering whether any one else is having the same problem!  For the last couple of years a lot of my aquilegia where attacked by the gall midge fly.  This year the buds seem to be developing nicely, no sign of the midge! However a couple of plants have had all their buds eaten right off and chunks taken out of the leaves.  I’ve read up on sawfly but it’s the buds that seem to be the favourite rather than the leaves.  I’ve been searching for caterpillars but can’t see any.  Any similar experiences out there ?

There is a type of slug which will eat the flower buds and flowers though not leaves. It's the Spanish slug and they are real pests.
