When a toad and I scared each other witless last year, he just sat there for about twenty minutes. Not the best way to escape a predator, I'd have thought.
B3, it did sit there for a bit, and then it did a wee. Not sure if it was just scared, or if it does that as a deterrent? It was also very big and puffed up, but after I had picked it up (with gloves and a dustpan!) and deposited it at the edge of the woodland, it seemed to slim down and waddled off into the undergrowth in quite a sprightly fashion. I’m quite fond of frogs and toads but I prefer not to suddenly see unexpected movement out of the corner of my eye! Very unnerving!
A toad scared the bejezzus out of me a few years ago, hiding under a planter, disguised as a rock. I find frogs don't pretend to be rocks and perhaps glisten more.
I do find frogs and slugs are the best of mates in my garden. "What's all the business about predator and prey?" I ask them as they shared out the Pringles. "Oh, we've gone vegan" they replied "it's all the rage". I sighed and moved on.
