Worried about my bamboo

hey all.
Very newbie gardener here looking for some advice.

I bought some bamboo  (Phyllostachys aurea) last year to grow a screen.

They are planted in the ground (not containers) and soil seems reasonably well drained.

Planted them around start of June last year (it wasn’t well planned!) and they seemed fine, sprouted new shoots/canes some of which grew to be much taller than the original.

However over the last few weeks they’ve looked a little poorly - yellow leaves. Tips of leaves turning brown and some new shoots seem to be turning black. (See pics).

I have been watering them regularly (I’m in Scotland so plenty of rain too) and feeding them.

Wondering if I’m over watering and or feeding or not enough? Help!

    Hello and welcome.
Bamboos have a life on their own.
They do need watering when young but you being in Scotland maybe the weather has been very cold as they were getting going.
Here in the SW of E we have had frosts for the whole of April and going into the first week of May.
    Many plants have suffered.
Could this be the case with your bamboo?
It may recover as the temps get warmer.
We don't feed any of our bamboos.

Hi and thanks for the welcome and response!

it’s certainly possible. We have had some mild frosts here right up until a couple of weeks ago and even now only managing to sneak above 12 degrees on occasion.

I will keep my fingers crossed they perk up with the weather!

    thanks again.

Hope you did put some root barrier membrane down when planted them in...or they will spread sooner or later. But I agree that the weather has been terrible and nobody's plants will look perfect right now.
