Urgent help needed please

I have an African Milk Tree that’s started rotting from the bottom, I understand that I need to cut the rotten part away but I don’t know how to keep the plant until it’s calluses over. I’d be grateful for any advice.

    Thanks for replying. My s-i-l turned up after I posted the question and she’s taken the plant with her to sort it out
