Something digging in my garden

Neighbours moved last August and new tenants have let the garden get very overgrown with weeds. Noticed the hole about six weeks ago and looks like something was trying to get out of my garden. Brick walls on other two sides so no escape route there. Tried blocking it but same thing has happened. Any ideas ???

I'd like to think it was a hedgehog, but l suppose it's possibly a rat.
Have you noticed any poo anywhere?

live quite near a small park, but I would have thought I would see something, anything other than a rat would be ok

    Hedgehog I reckon.

You'd have seen a rat by now. Especially if you feed birds, they don't even try to be discrete.

Or even a fox trying to squeeze under a fence ... before deciding it's easier to go over the top ...
