Alpine issues

Could anyone help? 3rd year alpine flowering good this spring but undergrowth seems not to good. Lot of crispy brown material. Do I need to add alpine grit, I know these plants need well draining soil

Those actually like plenty of moisture.  :)
If they dry out they're finished.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • They are in a sunny position have about 4hrs full sun. Do you think it’s to much sun. Garden centre thought to much water over winter

No - sun is fine, but those saxifrages don't thrive if they get dried out.  :)
I live in one of the wettest parts of the country, and have them in all sorts of locations, from a little green roof with very little soil, to boggy areas which never dry out [clay]. They're almost invasive, and I love them. If they get dried out they just go brown like that.
