Rose Arthur Bell

I purchased several roses a few months back and most of them are coming along nicely with the exception of Arthur Bell, (short variety, not climber). I just wondered whether he is a well known slow starter? I purchased one bare root variety for my sister and a potted one from a different supplier for myself but neither are doing much yet. Anyone had the same experience with these? T i a

They are probably making roots  and they are definitely worth the wait .
Have you tried scratching a little bark with your fingernail. Green underneath means alive. Brown means dead.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

I planted 9 of these 3 years ago - all grown in pots. They did take a little while to get established. I had to replace one (got the replacement was free) as the root system was very poor and it didn't 'take off'.  Since then I have had some lovely roses year on year. Obviously the first flush is the best and they smell beautiful.  I keep them dead headed and cut any long stems back to keep the shape.  They are all against a south facing wall of the house so don't get much water when it rains.  I water them in extremely hot/dry weather, but only once a week.  They have grown into good size plants.  The colour is a lovely yellow when they first open, then fades to a creamy white with a hint of yellow.
