Castor oil Houseplant should I prune the top off if so how much ?

This is my friends Castor oil plant. When I go and visit her it looks terrible dry it now has some yellow leaves I got her to add more water Its about 107 cm tall to the top of the stem or 42 inches. Last year I gave it some well rotted manure on the top and then covered it over with soil out of the garden so that it would not stink. I think I need to do this again. Anna has a problem with bright lights so likes this plant to shade her. Should we prune the top if so how much

I'm afraid no image shows to help us. Presumably you're referring to a Fatsia?

If it's Fatsia, it's probably too warm indoors for it.

If it's a fatsia that's a "false caster oil plant"

If it is a caster oil plant, all parts are extremely poisonous

    Mustn't use Latin names, @Hostafan1, it's elitist.

Without either a picture or the Latin name we can't really help with the question :/
