Clematis problem

Usually my clematis has a really good show of leaves and flowers. However this year it has started flowering but has few if any leaves. Don't know what type it is been in place for approx 10 to 15 years. Also noticed neighbor's clematis seems to have the same problem.  Shall I just leave it and see or any ideas

    Your clematis is a Montana.
It's getting a bit overgrown so after flowering you can try and remove the dead wood or cut the whole plant back as far as you like then  give it a feed, rose food will be fine and a good watering every now and again especially if we have a dry summer.
Mulch of well rotted manure around it, kept away from the stems, if you want.
The weather changes have played havoc with plants this year but yours looks fine.
Can't see the bush you are referring to though.

Not so great with shrubs but possibly a viburnum.
    Could be frost damage.
Have a scratch at the bark on the worst stems if it's green its still alive and will probably reboot. If it's brown it's dead.
    Meant reshoot!

I suspect both the shrub and the clematis are suffering from cold, drying winds thru winter and spring and a lack of rain thru a dry, cold and windy April.

Follow @K67's advice for cutting back the clematis and renewing vigour once flowering finishes.  I would cut back to their base the browned stems on your shrub and then give both plats - and any others looking dried out or weak - a series of good, long drinks.  By that I mean 15 to 20 litres at a time, poured slowly so it sinks in and doesn't just run off.  Do this twice a week till things improve or at least mid July and all thru any hot or dry spells this summer.

Both plants would benefit from a slow release fertiliser such as rose or tomato feed lightly forked in around their roots.

OK thanks for your help on these matters. Think it might have been late heavy frost

Thirst too.  Clematis are hungry, thirsty plants so do water it.
