veggie seedlings out

i finally took the plunge and sow some of my seedlings out today. i am in south east. i have covered them with fleece hoping they will be OK. damn and i found a rat eating bird food. how do i deter rat. do i just get rid of bird food for now and hope he(i am assuming he) goes away :#

    Bird feeding can attract rats, yes.

    ...... and this is the time when they have young, which means they're bolder when looking for food for them.  We have the same and set a few traps to reduce numbers, but you'll never get them all.

    so last week i had put the seedlings out and now this storm. i have covered them in fleece but i don't think that will work is it ok to lift them and transfer into pots and bring them in at this point or cover more. saving them with weather and slugs is on going battle helppppppppppppp

    Could you cover them with plant pots to avoid a battering? 

    Or I use old, plastic drinks bottles (2 litre). Cut in half and placed over anything that looks vulnerable.
