Akebia Quintata - good idea?

Hello all, new to the forum.
I saw an Akebia Quintata on a TV programme the other day and couldn't get it out of my head as I'd not seen it before.  I bought one and planted to grow along a fence and was very happy with myself.
I have since seen articles that say it is an invasive menace.
Any advice please?  have I done the wrong thing? I'm in Bedford UK
Thank you in advance :-)

No, it will be fine. It is a vigorous climber though and where the vines touch the ground they might root, so keep an eye on it. The flowers and leaves are quite pretty and it is supposed to have a chocolate smell, although I can't detect it on mine. I planted one in a gap in a hedge and intend to keep it under control by just clipping it when I do the hedge.

  • @Lizzie27 thank you! Phew!
It is very clear where it is and I will be training it along the fence so will be able to keep an eye on it so hopefully won't touch the ground to root.
I'm a nightmare, when I see a new plant I can't get past it, unless I see that it can't grow in my clay :-)
Thank you for letting me sleep again :-)

We have it growing on the north side of our polytunnel.
Yes it can be vigorous but it is easily controlled and cut back.
