Meconopsis issue

Not sure what i am doing wrong but i had 3 meconopsis plug plants,i planted them up, watered them and placed them on kitchen window sill. They looked healthy but soon leaves stsrted to brown at the tips then dropped off. Moved them from the sill to less bright area. This was  approx 3-4 weeks ago.I have moved them to my cold frame, afrad to place them in garden due to changeable weather and slugs. They have only grown about 1/4 inch.Help would  be appreciated please.

Meconopsis do not like warm sunny conditions. They need cool, moist, shady and acidic soil.
They do not need to be grown indoors, acold g/h or similar will be fine.

Thank you all for your responses.I live in North Wales so the weather should be suitable,Punkdoc i only kept them inside for a week or two as it was frosty and cold here at the time.I have placed them in a cold frame which only gets sunshine in the mornings for a couple of hours. Perhaps i should change the soil. Thank you
