What is happening to my garden?

I’ve noticed all my plants (some have been in for 5 years!) have died or are dying. Can anyone tell me why is happening?

This is a tree which has the leaves browning.

My hydrangea next to it. Started the year looking healthy but now leaves are going brown and crispy.

My new hydrangea which is the least affects but also the newest addition (last summer).
All my lavender plants have died and these were a few years old.

I just don’t understand why everything is suddenly dying?

Thirst and cold winds.  It's been a long, cold April with hardly any rain in most parts and some blistering winds which lead to desiccation of new young foliage and wilting flowers.  I'm afraid the lavender looks past it but the shrubs and trees can be saved.

You need to water all the affected plants copiously - 15L each once or twice a week till they recover.   Don't prune anything back unless it's definitely brown and dead.  Give the plants time to recover and waken up sleeping buds before you cut back.

Frosts and cold dry winds - you're not alone. Plenty of similar looking plants in my garden too
Most should recover, but may look a bit tatty for a while

I’ve plants exhibiting the same symptoms as you as well, Sharon, with my hydrangea leaves showing browning on some of the edges (not all) and I’ve lost a French lavender completely with a second one struggling but beginning to show some green, so I’ll give it a bit longer. I’ve lost one of my fuschia plants, too and the other looked dead but has slowly started to revive, along with a bottlebrush. I think it’s down to the severe cold snap we had in February, when temperatures plummeted. I think that you will find that most of your plants will recover, as mine seem to be doing, so don’t give up hope with them just yet. :)

  • Oh well that sounds hopeful! Thank you all
Fingers crossed they recover!!and yes there’s a tiny amount of green on the lavender so will see how that goes.

My hydrangeas were so beautiful so I hope they do recover!!

You could maybe try some seaweed feed on the hydrangeas, my MIL swears by it and her hydrangeas are something else  :)
