Griselinia too close to house?

Hi all, bit of a dilemma, have a griselinia right next to house, really close.

Someone suggested it’s too close to the house and will damage foundations and or pipes.

it’s sitting in a raised patio area, behind the wall is a drop of about 3ft, so not really sure where the roots are going, but i really don’t want them damaging the house.  Patio, don’t mind it damaging that, as I love the plant.

any thoughts on how big the roots are on these things. It’s about 15 years old (possibly more) and am considering chopping it down to avoid any foundation damage.

if I keep it trimmed down, don’t let it grow higher, would it be fine? Or would the root system keep expanding no matter what’s above ground?

Any thoughts before I destroy a plant that I love and want to keep ☹️

  • Mine is about 25 odd years old and probably the same distance from my house. Can't say we noticed any problems. Fingers crossed.

Decided to take the plunge, and chopped it - didn’t want to run the risk of foundation damage. Now looking for a relatively shallow rooted plant to grow up the wall - was thinking of a rambling rose, something like wedding day?  They won’t damage foundations will they!
