Please help save our Nordmann fir!

Hi,

Hope someone can help!

We planted our 2019 Christmas tree in January 2020, a living tree in a pot aand he seemed to thrive last summer but the winter has been harsh and now he looks like this.

Anything I can do to keep him alive?

Thanks in advance!

I think all things considered he’s looking quite handsome.  Keep watering generously. A bucketful twice a week
.., more in hot dry weather. With all those trees around sucking up moisture,  it’ll be almost impossible to overwater it. 😊

    Oh that's good to hear!

We give him about 10 litres a week I'm guessing split into 3 with some dissolved aspirin so hopefully that's helping!

He has a lady friend by the way who we planted in January this year...

Glad he won’t be lonely 🥰

A couple of good soakings a week is better than little and often. Soaking the soil encourages the roots to reach downwards so that they can seek out water on their own. Just watering the surface soil keeps the roots near the surface and then they get dried out in hot weather.

Keep the aspirin for headaches. It would do better with a high nitrogen feed such as dried blood or nettle tea feed.

Oh okay, I had heard that it improves their immune system which is why I've been adding it.

I'll try the nettle tea feed - not so sure about the dried blood though!  :o

As well as water and varying levels of sunlight, shade and warmth, plants need nutrients.  The 3 most important are NPK - nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium plus some trace elements such as magnesium and calcium.

Nitrogen is for healthy foliage and is found in the blood component of blood, fish and bone fertilisers.   Nettle tea is high in nitrogen.  Phosphorus and potassium are needed for healthy roots, flowers and fruits.   Comfrey tea does the P and K elements so is good for roses, clematis, tomatoes etc.

Thank for that, it really informative.

Is there anything I can purchase with all those nutrients you mentioned in?
