Tulipa turkestanica

Just been drooling over the newly arrived Broadleigh Gardens autumn catalogue. Very tempted by T turkestanica. Anyone have any experience/comments, pros/cons?

    Yes, I have those as well as several other species tulips.  Very early to flower and they have been coming back every year for about 5 years, so far, in my improved clay soil.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    I live in NE England, not the warmest place in the UK and I’ve a couple of clumps that flower well and gently self seed some years. They need to be in a sunny spot with well drained soil. I have a soft spot for the species. Give them a go, I think I did mine in pots the first year just so I could admire them.

    @BobTheGardener @Bilje thanks, sounds just the job, and somehow, ordering bulbs for next spring seems a suitably optimistic thing to do. Cheers.

    You and I were of a similar mind, I buy from Peter Nyssen and was browsing on line earlier. Mind you that was because we were having a hail lightning thunderstorm and I couldn’t get out to do the endless weeding.

    @Bilje Yep, torrential rain and howling gale here. We seem to have leap-frogged straight to autumn...
