will my Clary flower in first year.

Hi. all my Clary seeds have come  up and made lovely sturdy plants. I wanted them to flower this year and planned to give some to family and friends. now Ive read they dont flower till their second year, I hope this is wrong. I feel stupid  now should have read the packet. will they winter over in an unheated greenhouse.

    Salvia sclarea is normally a biennial species (2nd.year flowering) ; sometimes certain plants act as perennials but these are normally short lived .

    Oh dear. found the packet, just says Clary bouquet mixed. flowers june to october,  just going to plant a few at back of border  and see  what happens. thanks anyway.

    I’m growing them for the first time this year too .....


    My pack says they are a hardy annual and flower from June to October..... fingers crossed 🤞🏻

    Oh thank you thats given me hope, fairly new to this seed growing lark just bought the plants before, then we bought a greenhouse in lockdown so its fun at the moment.

    I had clary flower in it's first season last year. Unfortunately it did not make it through the winter.
    Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

    thanks everyone flowering first season will do for me, I want to give friends something that will flower this year and not just be a clump of leaves.  you have all saved some small plants lives.

    They're grown for the coloured leaves. Haven't grown them for years. I don't remember the flowers being particularly significant. I meant to try some this year but forgot.

    Yes will flower, then dump, they’re an annual.
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
