Anyone identify this? In the raised veg plot

It's a beast, there are quite a few of them, had to dig up a couple,in the middle of my broad beans. They have huge white roots. Lots of 
leaves with a blue/grey hue. There is an asparagus bed at the end. Last year spuds in there,we do get a lot of self seeded opium poppies around the garden,but have never seen roots like this. Hubby is convinced it's some veg I've planted,it's not. It's in the compost bin now
