Buckets for tomato growing

Hi

I have accumulated a number of large clear plastic buckets that I have bought bird food in. Can I use these for planting my tomato and chilli plants in, or do they need to be dark plastic?

Thanks for your advice.
I could agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong...

My wife buys the same - great for Tomatoes & Cucumber. Although the buckets are white rather than transparent.
Just paint them so they are opaque, drill a few holes - good to go.

Thanks - good idea about painting them!

Line them with old compost bags.
