    Thanks @Fire, I’ll try to put the majority in beds as I’m not very good at watering thirsty pots in summer.

    I Should just stress that this is only my experience with sunflowers. Others will have a wide range of interesting perspectives.

    I grow mine in pots to avoid them getting slugged early on (which works in my garden), and because I don't have much space, esp at the sunny end of the garden.

    Yes, I’ve experienced slug cutting off young sunflowers. I’ll have to try to up my defences until they get sturdy enough.

    You can keep them in a pot until they get to over a foot. The plants have stems with stiff hairs and this should help put off some critters.
