Keeping water feature clear of algae

We recently bought a self-contained water feature - a large ball sitting in a bowl.  It is situated in full sun (when we get any!) and the water in the dish is turning a bit green after only 3 weeks.  We haven't had it switched on for all that length of time, though.  We want to put something into the water to keep it clear rather than keep having to bail it out.  Can I use Milton or baby sterilising tablets or should I buy a 'proper' branded product to keep the water clear.  What do other people on this forum recommend?  Thanks

No idea but why don't you try it and see, if it doesn't work buy the proper stuff.

If birds ever drink or bathe in your water feature I'd be a bit concerned about using Milton or similar - I've a vague recollection that when the tablets are dissolved they produce a cloudy solution - though I may have remembered that wrong 🤔

Quick Google comes up with Apple cider vinegar. Don't think you need worry about birds unless you have budgies!
