Chicks

Not sure where to post this....

I have 6 four week old chicks. Does anyone have any experience on when I can put them outside?

I was initially thinking to put them outside in the day and bring them back in on the night under the heat lamp?

Do I register them with DARD?

They are on chick crumb. Can I feed them any extra treats?

I have researched all of the above but have received many contradictions!!

Thank you

I’m out of date with the legal stuff ... you should be able to get the info you need here http://poultrykeeperforum.com/

With this cold weather and without a hen to brood them I wouldn’t let them out for any length of time until they’re fully feathered.

If you can identify ‘chickweed’ aka Stellaria media you can give them a little, chopped up very finely. Too much green stuff too soon can give them a compacted crop which is dangerous.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
