Basil Problems
in Fruit & veg
Hi folks,
I'm wondering if you can help me at all?
I've recently started gardening as a hobby, since the beginning of the year, and am new to growing fruit and veg. We're also trying to grow herbs too. We're successfully growing sage, coriander and chives and are about to grow some rosemary and thyme.
I'm really struggling with growing basil, I've sowed it in pots on three separate tries, and I get shoots come up and then after about a week or so, they start dying off. I keep it on a window sill at the back of my house as my garden is south facing and almost always in direct sunlight. I then tried in the greenhouse we have and it didn't germinate at all and then it has done the same as the first attempt this time.
I'm wondering what am I doing wrong that if keeps dying like this? I don't put it outside in the midday sun or anything like that, I'm trying to get it going indoors.
Thank you

Given the current weather in the UK - sunny days but cold nights - you may want to wait a few weeks before sowing anyway. Given a reasonable enough summer, they will soon put on enough growth for a decent harvest.
