Cracked/scorched leaves on Magnolia

Hello there

We have an issue with what we believe to be a magnolia that we've had for a number of years in a large pot on a sunny terrace (we live in Spain, near Barcelona).

Many of the leaves have holes or cracks, which look almost charred or burnt. I know it gets hot on the terrace, but the plant has survived many a summer there without issues, and spring is only just starting.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Have you already ruled out slug damage? If the leaf damage had been more in the shape of rounder looking spots, I would also consider algal leaf spots. They can be hiding in the top/bottom of the foliage, etc. But if this was done last summer, they may be gone now.

If you mean, have I searched for slugs, yes, I examined the foliage for any sign of insects and didn't find anything.

Do you mean that this damage might have been originally caused in the summer, but the effects are only now showing?

    Thanks for your reply!

The damage looks like it did not just happen this week so I was wondering if it was detected a long time ago, in which case the slugs may have been gone.
