Winter Pansies to Summer Annuals

When should I replace my winter pansies with summer annuals and should I keep the pansies for next year please

    I would wait until there is absolutely no chance of frost. I expect the garden centres will be filling up with bedding plants very soon, especially with the late May Bank Holiday approaching. If you have somewhere sheltered to put them (up against the house wall for instance),  then you can buy any now that take your fancy .
    Re the pansies, l have taken mine out of their pots,cut them back and planted them out in the garden. For next year's pots, personally l would buy new plants  :)

    Can I ask....are pansies perennials? If I take them out of pots and plant in the border will they come back next year? 
    I always assumed they were annuals 🤯

    I think technically they are @Dinnerplatedahlias🌸, but they are generally treated as annuals. I find that given the right conditions they will flower again, but personally l prefer fresh plants in the Autumn for Spring flowering. 
    As far as Violas are concerned, there are definitely perennial types, and a couple of specialist nurseries such as this one.

    Winter pansies and violas are the most annoying of plants. In the garden centre in October they’re ostentatiously winking at you, “Buy me, buy me.” You do, and they look great for two weeks before slipping into their extended winter sulk, bedraggled and forlorn. They only perk up again when they realise their place in the garden is under threat by Johnny-come-lately summer bedding. They’re fickle bastards.

    This year thank goodness for them…they are flowering beautifully and filling all the gaps which should be filled with my seedlings which are definitely sulking. I’m beginning to wonder whether they will still be in place in august!
    Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

    Well I have decided that when I take them out of their pots I am going to plant them in the garden - and wait and see
