Peat free medium for container plants

Does anyone have any advice on good potting matter for established container plants that is peat free that can be bought in the absence of home made compost. Thanks

    Melcourt is great - with John Innes mix no. 3. Peat free.

    Check the composition of the John Innes compost. Traditionally it contains peat.

    Melcourt's environmental policy states that no peat is used in any of their products.

    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    Pleased to hear it. Would that all compost providers followed their example.

    I’ve mixed peat free mpc, top soil and grit or sharp sand for pots which has worked well. Sometimes added a bit of rotted manure for extra nutrition or a controlled release fertiliser. Melcourt products are great but they can be tricky to source.

    How readily available is this? Don't recall seeing it anywhere.

    There is a supplier list on their website.
    Sadly my nearest is an RHS garden 30 miles away.
