Tiny pots - what can they hold?

We have an expanding bamboo trellis fixed to our fence to help disguise some banding in our fence. I also have 5-6 x 10cm metal pots with fixed hooks that I'd like to hang on the screen. Question is, what if anything can survive in these little pots over the summer? The fence is south facing so gets a lot of sun.

    Is that 10cm (4 inches) diameter or 5-6cm (2 inches or so) diameter? 2 inch diameter is probably not good for much except something like single rosettes of houseleeks that don't need much growing medium. A 4 inch pot should be able to take a single small-ish bedding plant like lobelia, small tagetes/marigold, calibrachoa etc if you can water often enough, but trouble with metal pots is that they can get hot in the sun and cook the roots.

    Hi @JennyJ They pots are 10cm wide (at top) and I have 5-6 of them. Yes, I guess the main issue is the cooking of the roots! I guess with the smaller bedding style plants, they are at least fairly cheap to replace. Will take a look at your suggestions :)
