Help needed with large raised beds

Hello all,
This is my first post and I am a complete novice so please go easy on me!!
We are planning to build two raised planters 45cm wide, 4.3 metres long and 60cm/40cm deep.
One of these will run along a wall and sit on a timber deck, the plan is to plant something that will offer an evergreen shielding and can be maintained at around 120cm. The wall is south facing and gets a fair amount of sun. We were thinking of putting some bamboo in there but are concerned as it gets a bit of bad press.
In the second bed faces in the same direction, we were thinking of putting some grasses and heather but are a bit concerned about a lack of colour.
If anyone can help with some ideas or warnings about what we intend to do it would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

Lee

The joy of new beds!  For a tall plant for a sunny spot, what about Daphne Spring Beauty?  It grows upright very quickly, is evergreen, has gorgeous scented flowers through Spring and likes the sun.  Daphnes hate to be moved, though, so plant it where you really want it :)  Mine have almost doubled in height in a season and are already close to a metre.  Also look at Euonymus Green Rocket (also known as Green Spire).  What about a tall Alstroemeria?  Flowers for months on end, bushes up pretty quickly and you have your choice of colours and also cut flowers for the house :)  Sidalcea?  Camassia?  Both fast growing and gorgeous - have a look at Hare Spring Plants for both of those.  For a grass, have a look at Hakonechloa (there are a couple of colourways to choose from) which forms a beautiful mound relatively quickly.  All of these are fully hardy and also very low maintenance and don't do anything sneaky like put out runners or thug out the other plants - they'll stay where you put them!  For info on them all, check out the rhs site which also has a great 'find a plant' search facility under the "gardening' tab, which means you can do quite specific searches depending on what you want (rhs.org.uk)  Have fun!

I’ll be sure to check out the rhs site.
We are excited to get going but want to take time to plan.
