With a split like that, you cannot save the branch. Cut it cleanly below the split. You should be able to save the left hand side branch, but it will always be an odd shape.
Two cherry trees in my garden. Well, at least two until today . A very big one near the house, and a smaller and very old one at the very far end. The old small one just got broken by the wind. The wind was not even extremely strong. I'm very sad.
Now got to dispose of it and decide what to do next. Maybe replace it with a new one.Â
If you're not in a desperate hurry, that blossom will probably survive a few more days and provide much needed nectar and pollen so you could maybe wait till the weekend and then cut that entire right fork off neatly and just have the left hand fork as a tree - unless of course the wood looks diseased on closer inspection and it's best to remove the entire tree - after the blossom goes over.
