My list of annoying newspeak seems to get longer going forward (geddit?) "Curated", "carefully curated" (a tautology, if I'm not mistaken), "circling back"(what happens when you're going forward, but you've forgotten something? ) Then there's all the "covid speak" offshoots - "flattening the curve", "baked in", "uptick", "robust", "new normal", "in the time of" 🙄 the woman that isn't Adam, from BBC Inside Science used "uptick" about 5 times in one sentence the other day! And as for the "quite literally" now ubiquitous "it is what it is".... when I answer "no it isnt" they seem to stop for a brief second, as if an actual thought has "stepped up to the plate", "got on all fours", "swept the shed", "boiled the ocean" but then "circled back" to the "new normal"! Not Not my creation - I'd've spelt bandwidth correctly!
I groan when I hear someone say “absolutely” when it would have been so much easier to have said “yes”. For some reason Michael Portillo’s interviewees on Great British Railway Journeys are among the worst offenders.
When visiting the USA some years ago I got sick of hearing the phrase “for your viewing pleasure” at visitor attractions. There seems to be something really creepy about it.
I've just squirmed listening to Priti Patel babbling on about "supportin the Plees". Even if I trusted what she said, I wouldn't be able to listen to her...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

It took me a few minutes to work out what/who the Plees were. Perhaps it is actually quite appropriate as the Plees are pleading for a pay rise Can't think of a reasonable excuse for the missing G tho.

Just like that nice Mr Wilson, I did love that man but what a fraud, he was nothing in real life like how he came across to his public.
