Dog owners and your approach to toxic plants.

  • Thank you all for replies and practical advice. So far we can definitely confirm that her favourite thing in the garden is grass. And chewing on a fallen and seasoned Mahonia leaf, despite their prickliness.  But there hasn't been anything else in the garden since she arrived, so we'll have to wait and see if she's a chewer or not (but no signs of being when out on walks). As we're starting from scratch we can gradually add plants and observe how she responds.

    I'd be careful with a puppy and just observe if they nibble on plants when you're out with them. My dog used to eat all sorts as a pup but not usually plants. The only plant he eats now is couch grass - wish I could take credit for training him to do the weeding 😂
