Raising garden level using clay soil

We have recently dug up a large amount of clay soil to lay a new patio. Due to poor access we cannot have a skip and are struggling to get it removed by anyone. The top of the garden is on a slope and we are hoping to use at least some of the clay soil to raise the level about 1 foot before finishing with a new lawn. Would this be a suitable alternative?!

    The soil you have dug-out could be subsoil, so grass etc. will struggle if laid/sown on top as it will have no life/nutrients.  However, if you remove the top 15cm of topsoil from the area you want to level first, raise it using the subsoil, and then put the original topsoil back on top, you should be fine.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    Thanks for responding so quickly. The clay we dug out was under a brick patio that was about 100 years old. My plan is to level the top using this and then apply a good quality top soil before laying new turf. Fingers crossed it works and uses most of the clay.
