Black bamboo in trouble!

As I hope the photo shows, 3 of 5 black bamboo seem in a very poor state! They were planted 5 years ago and have been quite happy until recently. Do we just have to bear their loss or is there anything anyone can suggest to help us revive them? They are watered once a week during summer and feed lawn food twice a year on average. I would really appreciate your comments please.

Hello. My guess is a lack of water. We have had a very dry spring (I had no rain since February until very recently). Maybe try really watering them generously and see if that helps.
  • We have done that but they are just continuing to deteriorate. Can the plants be revived when they are in such a poor state?

The only other thing I can suggest is that after 5 years, they have outgrown the troughs, and become root-bound. Perhaps others more expert than me might have other suggestions.
  • Thank you-we were starting to think that way. Any other comments would be most welcome

Our black bamboo is in the ground and we haven't watered it even during the very dry Spring.
It is looking really good and last week we cut away the lower "leaves" so that we can see the lovely black stems.
    Look brilliant.
Haven't grown any in troughs/pots so agree that maybe they have outlived their home.

Have you ever re potted them? Ours were done 2 years ago and will soon need doing again, once a week watering is not enough, they are big plants, need a lot of water and feed
  • Looks like we have some work to do but we will try repotting when the weather gets warmer🤞🏻
