Compost - what is this?

There a little bead like thing in my homemade compost. If I squish it it pops with a bit of pus so I’m guessing it’s an undesirable critter?

Have you put old compost from bought plants in there? It could be a slow-release fertiliser capsule/granule (not sure what's the right term).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Thanks for the suggestion but I don’t have much old compost to add so I don’t think so. There’s quite a few of them and my compost bin doesn’t get that hot.

    snail/slug egg most likely.

The black plastic is my trowel so you can see it’s about as small as a grain of rice. It’s always brown in colour and not in a cluster so I didn’t think it was slug or snail eggs either.  Mystery.

I think I found the answer by googling. Red worm cocoons? In which case I won’t squish them. Learn something new everyday https://www.redwormcomposting.com/worm-composting/red-worm-cocoons/
