Hi GWers, hope you can solve this. Parents are letting a paddock go wild, and lots of these plants are popping up in clusters of 5 or less. They’re about 2.5 feet high so far. Pretty sure they’re distinctly unglamorous but would still like to know.
It's also possible they are young saplings from cherry seeds deposited by pigeons. They would normally be grazed down each year, but the roots survive, so they come back. Dig a few up - if they are attached to a larger horizontal root, then Dove is likely right, even if the tree was cut down a few years ago. If they each have their own roots, then saplings.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
