Fig tree

Hi I have just bought a fig tree from the garden centre. The tree is about 5ft tall, is in leaf and it has a couple of figs growing already. My question is, should I pot it into a bigger container now as the plastic pot it came in is quite small and am worried it could dry out in warmer weather. I have read that the tree shouldn’t be repotted when in leaf?

I haven”t had a fig tree before so any advice is welcome! Thanks 😁

Check the base.  If you can see roots it needs potting on.   Either way, it's important to feed it (tomato feed is good) and keep it watered.

Have a read of this info from the RHS as it should help:

    Can you post a photo?
They need an awful lot of water even if the pot is big enough.
If you're careful, it probably won't even know you've repotted it. As it's only a plastic pot, you could cut the pot open if the plant won't come out easily.

Depends on the planting site but do bear in mind that if your Fig takes off and you need to prune it back, this will encourage suckers.
Some advice is  to make some kind of barrier around the main tree to restrict suckers spreading into the surrounding area.
