Is this vine weevil grub?

Morning all,

My friend gave me some strawberry plants. She said a couple didn’t take. So when I got home, I inspected the roots and found something having a feast. Are they the dreaded baby vine weevils?

Thanks

Vine weevil grubs have chestnut brown heads and no legs ... can't see from your photo but you can check ...  :)

Thanks Dove. Unfortunately, I binned them straightaway as I didn’t want them infecting my own plants 😬

Didn’t notice any legs but didn’t pay much attention to the heads either. At least I know what to look for in future 👍

A bit difficult to tell from your photos, but from what you say l wouldn't be at all surprised. If they looked like this, then yes.

If in doubt, chuck it out  :)

Thanks for the photo @AnniD. Mine weren’t as plump, that could be because they’d not long hatched. I do know they were eating the roots and killed the plants!

I’m just glad I checked them as soon as I got home  :)
